Dr. Michael Everest And Danny Trejo Collaborate To Light Up The Holiday Season For East LA Front-Line Workers
The city of Los Angeles witnessed another praiseworthy effort this holiday season from the now-famous collaboration of actor Danny Trejo and the Everest Foundation. The collaboration has already resulted in several community outreach efforts and food donation programs, all organized in many different parts of the city. This time, Trejo and Dr. Michael Everest spread joy among the front-line workers and their families from the East LA Community through a drive-up food distribution program arranged at the LA Civic Center.
During the event, nutritious food packs were distributed among as many as 800 families from the community. Later, Trejo, famed for his performance in ‘Machete’, took to Instagram to comment on the initiative. The 76-year old actor wrote that he felt fortunate to do his bit to bring joy and relief to members of the community in need. In the same post, the actor also commented that the last year had been a trying one for pretty much everyone, and he feels happy that he can serve the community through these donation programs.
In a recent PSA for CRI-Help, a Los Angeles-based non-profit addition and drug rehab center, the actor spoke openly about his past struggles with addiction and how the center had helped him to come clean of his habit. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the people who helped him in his times of trouble and added that he had received generous support from many individuals at different stages of his life. He strongly feels that it is his responsibility to give back to the community in whatever manner possible.
As for Dr. Michael Everest, he is already a familiar name among the country’s medical fraternity. Through The Everest Foundation, the non-profit organization he founded drawing inspiration from his late father, Mr. Edwin Everest, Dr. Michael Everest has already made significant contributions towards advanced medical research, training, and graduate medical education across the country. The Everest Foundation has made many sizable and sustained donations to several of the country’s top medical schools.
The foundation also supports research initiatives undertaken by various community-based hospitals. Dr. Michael Everest reflected his care for his community when he spoke about his recent collaboration with Danny Trejo and about the initiatives they had undertaken together. The noted philanthropist commented that as a Los Angeles native, he had always wanted to give back to the city. This recent initiative allowed him to do so. That’s why when Mr. Trejo approached him with the suggestion for collaboration, Dr. Michael Everest was only too glad to come aboard.
That was back early in 2020, during the most challenging days of the pandemic. Since then, the partnership has resulted in many outreach programs, notable among them the ones organized at the Kedren Community Health Center in South Central LA and the Westside VA campus. The last was an effort to provide relief to many homeless US vets and their families living in temporary tents inside the campus itself.
Speaking about the recent event, Dr. Michael Everest thanked the front-line workers who had put their own lives at risk to serve the community at large. The physician also maintained that both he and Trejo want these efforts to be sustainable and not just one-off events.
