HONG KONG Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping will attend an international trade fair this week in an apparent move to dismiss speculation about his health following a two-week absence from public engagements, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Xi, widely expected to succeed President Hu Jintao, made his first public appearance since Sept. 1 on Saturday, meeting with students and staff at the China Agricultural University in Beijing, along with three other senior Communist Party officials, the report said. Speculation about his health was sparked after Xi canceled several scheduled meetings, including with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, at short notice, and U.S. officials reportedly said they were told that Xi had a bad back.
