LONDON The unemployment rate in the U.K. for the three-month period ending in May 2012 was 8.1%, down 0.2 percentage points from the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics reported Wednesday. Analysts polled by FactSet had predicted a rate of 8.2%. The number of unemployed people in the region was 2.58 million, down 65,000 over the quarter, the ONS said. The claimant count rose by 6,100 last month, bringing the total number of people claiming jobless benefits to 1.6 million, the ONS said.
