Reuters reported that founder Richard Schulze and at least four private equity firms have begun to examine the books of the retailer and could eventually propose an $ 11 billion bid. Family Dollar Stores Inc. shares rose 2.1% after the discount retailer’s gross margin declined less than analysts were expecting. Drugstore chain Walgreen Co. dropped 1.4% after its September same-store sales fell more than expected.
