By 2030 China will blow past America as the world’s largest economy and global power will shift decidedly in favor of Asia, a new report from the U.S. intelligence community forecasted on Monday. The prediction comes as the U.S. and Europe struggle to recover from the Great Recession but some emerging economies continue to grow at a far healthier pace. The National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends report concluded that by 2030 Asia will surpass North America and Europe combined in terms of global power, based on gross domestic product growth, population size, military spending and technological investment. Further, the report [...]

SAN FRANCISCO As tablets and smartphones draw more and more users away from PCs, Intel Corp is facing some difficult questions. Intel, the world’s leading chipmaker, is used to being king of the personal computer market, particularly through its historic “Wintel” alliance with Microsoft Corp, which led to breathtakingly high profit margins and an 80 percent market share. But in the fast-growing and cut-throat mobile world, Intel is struggling – its market share is less than 1 percent of smartphones, trailing Qualcomm Inc, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, ARM Holdings Plc and others. That leaves some investors, already concerned about a [...]

PC shipments will total 349 million units this year, down 1.2% from 2011, according to IHS. “There was great hope through the first half that 2012 would prove to be a rebound year for the PC market,” IHS analyst Craig Stice said in [...]
Shares of Intel (INTC) slipped nearly 2% to a 52-week low Tuesday morning after the chip maker was slapped with a downgrade and received other negative notes from analysts. Sanford Bernstein cut Intel to “underperform” from “market perform” and lowered its price target on the Silicon Valley giant to $ 20 from $ 24. R.W. Baird cut Intel’s target to $ 26 from $ 32 on an “outperform” rating. The bleak view by both Intel and analysts reflects inflated prices that may soon be pushed lower by the broader market, softening global PC demand and rising competition from rivals like [...]
