SAN FRANCISCO Groupon Inc. on Wednesday said it has launched a new mobile payments service for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. The online daily deals site said the system, called Groupon Payments, will give businesses, including restaurants, salons and spas, the ability to take all credit card payments “at a lower rate than other providers,” the company said in a statement. Shares of Groupon were last trading up nearly 9%.
